Pooks of Shrewsbury are delighted to announce that they have let premises at Craven Arms Business Park to Church Stretton School to be used as a Construction Skills Centre.

The school has taken Unit 2 at the Craven Court development as part of a programme to teach practical construction skills to children aged 14-16. This is part of a joint venture with South Shropshire Learning Consortium, with the premises also being utilised by Ludlow School, Bishop’s Castle Community College and Lacon Childe School.

Robin Walker, Assistant Head at Church Stretton School said, “we are very pleased to be initially offering the new opportunity of a BTEC Level 1 course in Construction which will develop useful, practical skills in the youngsters. We would expect many of the pupils to progress on to higher level qualifications in the construction industry, although some may well look for employment in the local area. By September 2009, the centre will be developed to offer Level 2 Diploma courses in Construction & the Built Environment. Local employers and providers in the Construction Industry will be expected to work alongside the schools in all the diploma courses and any company within the industry who would like to be involved should contact me at school. .”
