POOKS GET PADDLING FOR MACMILLAN CANCER SUPPORT

The Pooks Team – Steven Evans, Jackie Betton and James Adney

Pooks of Shrewsbury are just one of 36 teams entered in the Chronicle Coracle Challenge taking place on the River Severn on Friday 8th June from 4.00pm onwards.

Elodie Home, Shropshire Fundraising Manager said, “This is the first Coracle Challenge that we have organised here in Shropshire. We are really excited that all the team places have been filled and we would really love lots of people to come along to cheer the teams on!

It should be quite a spectacle on the river, there will be six relay races with six teams; each team member will have to paddle their coracle from the Pengwern Boat Club bank to the other side of the river and back again. Anyone who has ever paddled a coracle has told us that this is no easy feat so it should be an entertaining event for spectators! There will also be lots of children’s activities and a Hog Roast, Pimms bar and cake and refreshments stand.”
James Adney, a Chartered Surveyor from Pooks said, “We are very much looking forward to taking part in this event and are hoping to beat our fundraising target for Macmillan Cancer Support by some margin. We would like to thank our sponsors who have been very generous.”

Fellow Pooks Paddler Jackie Betton added: “If anybody else would like to sponsor us for taking part in this challenge, we would love to hear from you.” If you would like to come along on 8th June, the fun starts from 4.00pm onwards!”
